CITY OF PATRAS & THE UNIVERSITY CAMPUS

Patras, the capital city of the Prefecture of Achaia and of the Region of Western Greece, is located in the NW Peloponnese; it has a population of a quarter of a million and is linked with all the major cities of Greece and Europe via land, sea and air.

The University of Patras is located in the Campus of Patras. The Campus of Patras is situated in the suburb Rio which is 8 km North East of the City of Patras within the Municipality of Patras.

The University of Patras which is the third Higher Educational Institution in the country in terms of student number, academic departments and personnel, has planned and built within the University Campus the Conference and Cultural Centre (C.C.C.) aiming at contributing towards a better and more effective organisation and management of scientific and other conferences, as well as towards the further cultural development of the greater region of Western Greece.

The Conference and Cultural Center is an autonomous meeting and exhibition complex of spaces. It is built in a 6 acre area, in two levels, in a total surface area of 9.300 sqm and may host up to 2000 participants.

ACCESS TO PATRAS

There are available flights to the International Airport of Athens “Eleftherios Venizelos”, which is located in Spata, East of Athens. Patras is easily accessible from the International Airport by train, bus or car. Moreover, a small airport (Araxos) is located close to Patras (40 km) which is used for charter flights.

From Athens Airport to Patras

By Train

Athens Airport is connected to Patras with routes of the National rail company TrenOSE.
Due to the reconstruction of the railway network, the service between Kiato (intermediate station) and Patras is operated by Coach buses.

By Coach Bus

To travel from Athens International Airport to Patras by coach bus, you have to take two separate bus services.

First, is the urban bus X93 which departs outside the Arrivals Area in the airport (Gates 4-5) and takes 9 stops to get to Kifisos Central Bus Station (in Athens). This is the last stop of the X93 route.The bus route Χ93 runs 24/7 and each bus departs every 25 to 30 minutes. The route from Athens Airport lasts 45 minutes to 1 hour, depending on traffic. The ticket price is 5 € for adults and 2,5 € for students, seniors, etc. Tickets can be purchased from the corresponding ticket kiosk in Athens Airport, which is located at the bus departure area. The service at this kiosk is 24/7. Tickets can as well be bought at the kiosk at Kifisos Bus Station, but there is no 24h service.

From Kifisos bus station there is a suburban bus run by KTEL Achaia, that travels to Patras. Travel takes 2,5 hours (express) to 3 hours (with stops) to Patras. Buses run frequently, every half an hour, and cover early morning or late night hours.

By car

From the Athens International Airport get into “Attiki Odos” and drive till the last exit of the road (Elefsina area), when you meet the “Athinon – Patron” National Road. The total distance is 243 km. For toll price lists please click here.

From Patras to the University Campus

By suburban railway

The Central Railway Station (OSE) is located in the city center. From the Central Railway Station there is the Suburban Railway (Proastiakos) that runs every one hour and connects the town with the suburbs and the University of Patras. The ticket cost is 1,40 €/ trip and 1 € / trip for students.

The Proastiakos runs every 1 hour between 06.30 – 22.30 and the daily route starts from St. Andreas – Patras – Kastelokampos – Hospital – University and every 1 hour between 07.00 – 23.00 the return route University – Hospital – Rio – Kastelokampos – Patras – St. Andreas.

From Kastelokampos Railway Station, the OSE bus takes the passengers to the University and vice versa.

By bus

The Number 6 bus for Rion, which leaves from the bus terminal that is located downtown, runs every ten to fifteen minutes and connects the University with the city. Since some buses go directly to the town of Rion, by passing the campus, it is advisable to ask before boarding if the specific bus goes to the Panepistimio (University).

By taxi

There are about one thousand taxis available in the city of Patras. Many taxis work on a 24-hour basis. You can hire a taxi at a taxi stand. Taxis can also be requested by telephone using one of the following numbers: (+30) 1300, 2610 346700, 2610 450000.

By car

The University is about 8 km from the city of Patras. Starting from the centre of Patras, drive till the end of Korinthou Street. Then, take the right lane onto Panepistimiou Street till the end and after the indoor Athletic stadium “Dimitrios Tofalos” you take a right turn at the traffic lights, following the signs “University of Patras”.
